Lodge Keepers Society 2010 gathering
More than 100 men, including representatives from 34 MKP centers worldwide, attended the 2010 international gathering of the Lodge Keepers Society. Meeting June 3-6 in Wellington, Colorado, about 80 miles or 130 km north of Denver, the gathering featured meetings, workshops, social time, and sacred ceremonies.
“Our participation and kinship demonstrates that we are the most passionate minority within MKP,” said Daniel McCoy, the LKS selection to serve on MKP’s international council. “The gathering was enriched by the camaraderie, depth of Spirit, ongoing connection, unfathomed learning, and obvious dedication shown by dozens of men who attend every year or two, some across almost two decades.”
Workshops during the gathering covered aspects of Lodge Keeper history, lore and practice, including rigorous safety procedures that have been further refined.
MKP ceremonies are multicultural. While such ceremonies are most commonly associated by North Americans with nearby Native traditions, similar ceremonies have been vital to early cultures around the world.
This year’s discussions in the LKS Council emphasized renewed communication and cooperation, particularly with key NWTA leaders and with international LKS leaders. While striving to uphold traditional standards, the LKS Council agreed that the strength, value and universality of the ceremonies for inner purification and renewal dwell in remaining adaptable to serve those who enter the ceremony. The LKS Council further identified the intentions and guidelines most essential within the ceremony.
Distinguishing the 2010 ceremonies, McCoy said, “was the profound support generated for the young daughter of one of our own, who was in medical crisis at that time; We embraced her as family with continued prayer and a mindful force of love toward her protection and recovery.”
