Leaving it Better – MKP San Diego
A common saying during any ManKind Project event is “Let’s leave it better than we found it.” This applies not only to the sites across the world that we rent for our trainings, but also the relationships between MKP men and the communities and people we meet. Often there will be 60-70 men on hand for a ManKind Project training event, and their impact will be noticed by local store clerks and restaurant owners, who often comment on the camaraderie shared by our motley crews.

Honing Our Integral Edges
by Boysen Hodgson
In the ManKind Project, we’re voracious integrators. Our trainings and groups are a tightly mixed alchemical combination of exercises, modalities and practices from across the spectrum of personal growth, psychology, spiritual, ritual and physical practices. Men from different traditions and multiple generations have brought their unique gifts to the ManKind Project and our men’s circles, and men show up around them to learn and integrate new ways of thinking and new skills to use in the work that we do.
Martin Marks Declares Himself ‘Gladiator in Chief’
Martin Marks, the Interim Executive Director of the ManKind Project USA, declared himself “Gladiator in Chief” in a conference call held Friday, April 1st. It was the 8th of 10 conference calls that Marks was scheduled to participate in on Friday. He went on to lay out a plan for the total over-haul of the New Warrior Training Adventure, noting that for too long we have neglected Chariot racing as a means of transforming men’s lives.
NEW in the MKP Journal – Member’s Section
Many of you asked for a section on the ManKind Project Journal to share internal discussions about the ManKind Project or discussions related to the nature of Men’s Work and Initiation.
**THE DOOR**
You asked for it. Here it is. We’ve created a way for you to Register on the MKP Journal and have access to a ‘Behind the Door’ section of the journal. The login information is not the same as your Community Administration Application (CAA) login information. Posts that are ‘Behind the Door’ are posted to their own category – outside the normal stream of stories on the page. When you click a story title from this category – you will be asked to login or register. Create the login of your choice, providing enough information so that we can verify your New Warrior Training Adventure.

MKP’s 25-Year Anniversary Celebration
Men of the Project:
On October 21-23 in Louisville, Kentucky, The ManKind Project International (“MKPI”) will be celebrating its 25th Anniversary.
In February of 1985, Ron Hering, Bill Kauth and Rich Tosi invited the first group of men to attend a “Wildman Weekend” outside of Chicago, Illinois. Since then, nearly 44,000 men worldwide have attended a similar version of that experience.
The MKP Mental Health Resource Team: History, Process and Mission
by David Rose
One of the ongoing narratives of The ManKind Project has been the tension between keeping the New Warrior Training Adventure (NWTA) a fierce and powerful experiential training while at the same time keeping a consciousness around safety — whether physical, spiritual, cultural, or psychological.
Seventh World Elder Gathering
Held October 20-22 in conjunction with MKP’s 25-Year Anniversary Celebration in Louiville, Kentucky, the Seventh World Elder Gathering (WEG) for this first time this year features men and women participating throughout the event. A closer connection of the masculine and feminine began last year at the Sixth World Elder Gathering in the UK, which was the first international MKP gathering held outside the U.S.
Both the WEG and the MKP 25-Year Anniversary Celebration encourage couples to attend, and both allow for a discount if a man or woman brings a partner.

Costa Rica hosts open community circle
by Don McDougle
I moved to Costa Rica a year ago after reading about several intentional communities that, according to their websites, were functioning well. Having had the experience of starting an intentional community in Texas, without success, I thought joining one that was already together might be a solution.
I had been looking to move to a tropical place for some time, and i looked at Costa Rica on the Internet for about five years. My wife and I sold or gave away most of our possessions, packed a couple of backpacks, my guitar, a laptop, and off we went.

Haiti: A ‘new warrior’ call to action
An open request to the men of The ManKind Project and our many supporters:
Haiti is located to the east of Central America
A series of late January earthquakes measuring 6.5 to 7.3 in magnitude near Port-au-Prince, Haiti, has devastated an area with a gross population of more than 3 million souls.
Beyond the devastating loss of life, hundreds of thousands ow struggle without basic shelter, food, water, and emergency medical supplies. Haiti is one of the world’s poorest and least developed countries in the world, with a gross domestic product per capita of US$ 790, or $2 per person per day. [wikipedia]
MKP leadership elections
On December 8, the MKP-USA Council met by phone bridge and held its elections for Chair and Vice Chair, each for a two year term. Elections are pending for MKP-I positions.
“With great pleasure,” said George Daranyi, chairman of The ManKind Project , “I announce that David Bauerly has been elected Chairman of MKP-USA, and Bob Oser has been elected Vice Chairman of that body. Please join me in congratulating, blessing and supporting these two men.” Daranyi also want honored David Kaar, who stood for the position of Chairman.”
MKP opens 2009 Chairman’s Campaign
The ManKind Project this week announced the launch of the 2009 Chairman’s Campaign, the annual drive to raise funds to support the activities of the nonprofit international organization for men.
In years past, this campaign was kept within the confines of the MKP community. As part of MKPs commitment to transparency, the campaign this year is being announced publicly through such open venues as the Journal.
The ManKind Project’s 25/25 Anniversary in 2010 will be in Louisville, Kentucky
The challenge of changing the world one man at a time began in 1984 when three men — Rich Tosi (a former Marine Corps officer), Bill Kauth (a social worker, therapist, and author), and Ron Hering (a university professor) — created an experiential weekend for men called The New Warrior Training Adventure.
A quarter century later, more than 45,000 men have experienced the New Warrior Training Adventure, giving birth to what once was called the New Warrior Network and today is known as The ManKind Project.
Executive Director Carl Griesser explains changes in MKP’s international structure
To enhance understanding of how The ManKind Project is changing as an international organization, MKP executive director Carl Griesser responded to questions about the structural shifts now planned.
Freed: How is the structure of The ManKind Project changing?
Griesser: There are two main changes in the structure of MKP.
One of them took place last February in downsizing the Project Council from 61 to 29 members. The Council meets once a year to make important decisions about organization policies and to approve our budget.
San Diego Boys to Men conducts second father-son Rite of Passage Adventure
by George Selders
The San Diego Center of Boys To Men completed their second Father-Son Weekend this past April. Thirteen fathers attended the weekend, supporting fifteen boys as they participated in their Rite of Passage Adventure (ROPA). In one case, two young brothers were fortunate to have both their father and their grandfather present for their initiatory entry into manhood. Another father was blessed to have two sons participate together in the ROPA weekend.
