A couple of years ago we had a family reunion at one of our most treasured gathering places; the Lake Mansfield Trout Club. For those who don’t know it, Lake Mansfield nestles into the steep drops at the base of the range that is the south approach to Mount Mansfield. It’s the last possible stop up what often seems an endless dirt road, especially in those times when getting there is a desperate act to retrieve peace and sanity …which is usually.

The Tedium of Coaching

Stuart Walkley presents this article in the Training Journal on”The Tedium of Coaching,” in which he laments

“an industry with a low entry point on qualifications and experiences, no single system of accreditation and with a range from the totally exceptional to the totally inept all under the one word ‘coach,’”

and further mentions that

“often the coaching process drives us through a number of sessions, which appear to have some linear progression leading towards a pre-ordained conclusion. I blame Excel and PowerPoint for this.”

Guns are in the news every day in our society. They’re the weapon of choice in countless “routine” homicides and mass murders. Motorcycle gang shootouts. Armed robberies. School shootings. Domestic violence rampages. Guns are a staple of our entertainment culture, a critical part of the story line in a seemingly endless number of TV shows, Hollywood films and video games. They’re also the subject of ongoing and often acrimonious political debate. Guns — and the violence they either inflict or seek to prevent — are a major presence in our individual and collective psyches.

Pitchers Dennis Lamp, Floyd Bannister, and Cy Young winner LaMar Hoyt. Fielders Harold Baines, Ron Kittle, and Tom Paciorek. Designated hitter Greg “The Bull” Luzinski. And to wrap it up, the penultimate catcher, Carlton “Pudge” Fisk.

These men were just the core of my favorite baseball team roster, the 1983 American League West Championship-winning Chicago White Sox. The White Sox heretofore had not participated in a post-season game since 1959. Prior to that, there had been no post-season appearance since the 1919 ‘Black Sox’ debacle. That’s a long time to survive without a championship coffee mug.

My wife Mary bought a baby carrier the year Alexander was born: 2004.

It’s the kind that lets you wear your baby (or toddler) hands free on your body when you walk around.

The carrier was retired from use last year after our then 3 year old, Miranda, outgrew it.

It lasted through two (very large and still growing) children, traveled around the world (Asia, Africa, Australia, Europe, and back), and five trips to the shoemaker for repairs.

What am I waiting for?

Perhaps a gift. Something given, not earned.

Maybe an option that is less scary. Easy.

Someone who can magically take me back in time and change the way that I was treated; and a blessing from God Himself, so that I may decipher the hidden meaning in my Mother’s words. “I love you so much that I can’t bare to see you fail; so I verbally abuse you to make you tough for this world”.

Why the BLEEP Doesn’t The Secret Work for Me?

Three Keys for Manifesting a Rich Life

by Tom Lietaert

So why am I only now writing about The Secret? It’s passé, blasé, already been analyzed and criticized. The Secret has sold over 19 million copies and is still going strong, and Rhonda Byrne’s new book, The Power, soared to Amazon’s top five the first week out. While old news for many of us, it still seems to have strong appeal. This makes sense given our quick fix culture, and as we will see—with new eyes and a path to authentic fulfillment—we can utilize this as an opportunity to grow…
